4 Ways to Rev Up Your Runs

We’ve all been there, right? The dread at the prospect of the long run, the pep-talks 4 miles in when the body’s willing but the brain is having none of it. Yep, I’m talking about the challenge of the long run when you just. Can’t. Switch. Off. You need to get the miles in but your inability to zone out is making every step a chore.
Follow these tips on how to shake it up and soon you’ll be banking the miles without even realising it.
1. Vary your routes
Yep, nothing worse than pounding the same beaten track every single week. Get on MapMyRun and start plotting new routes. Better still, take a drive somewhere new and soon you’ll be taking in the new scenery and enjoying the difference.
2. Download an audiobook
You know how you can get so gripped by a good read that the hours while away without you even noticing? If you can download audiobooks to your phone, give it a try. Plug in your headphones and get immersed in the latest bestseller.
3. Take a friend along
A pretty obvious one but I was surprised at how much I enjoy my runs when I have a buddy with me. It gives you a chance to catch up, you’re less likely to pull out and you can motivate each other if you’re struggling
4. Get competitive
There are loads of apps out there which you can use to plot your run and upload it to websites to compare to other runners. Strava is one I use for cycling which also has segments for running with leaderboards, challenges and progress reports. Grab your phone and search through the app store for some of the best
